Wife of Deputy Sheriff Experiencing Extreme Pregnancy Complications with Twins
Shortly after their marriage, Dylan and Naomi Leech relocated to Independence, Iowa. Soon thereafter, they purchased a home and were blessed with the news they were pregnant with their first child. But the surprises didn’t stop there. During a pregnancy scare, they found out they were pregnant with twin girls!
Shortly before the holiday season, their world changed again. Due to complications with the pregnancy, Naomi was transferred from Allen Hospital in Waterloo to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics and advised she was to stay there during the remainder of the pregnancy. At the time, she was just shy of 22 weeks pregnant.
Their lives changed in an instant. Naomi unable to work and unable to spend the holidays with her family and has been hospitalized since December 12th, 2019. Due to the complications with the pregnancy, one baby is growing faster than the other. The smaller of the babies has little to no amniotic fluid surrounding it.
In the midst of all the chaos, the Leech’s found out that their twin girls, are in fact a BOY AND A GIRL!
On 1/22/2020 at approximately 4:44 and 4:46 in the morning, Emery Jean and Warren Robert were born at 27.5 weeks, nearly 3.5 months early. Emery is doing well. Warren has a long road ahead and has a battle with his lungs growing. Due to the lack of amniotic fluid, Warren's lungs have hardened and have suffered tearing. Worst case scenario is he outgrows his lungs. Best case scenario is he has minimal long term effects.
As a result, Naomi is at risk of being out of work for eight months. Her short term disability will run for 12 weeks, however, it began the day she was hospitalized. The short term disability will run out well before she is able to return back to work. She credits her employer (Warren Transport) for working with her through this trying time.
However, as a young family, finances remain a concern. Dylan and Naomi never hesitated when the doctor told them they were staying at the hospital. They knew it was the best outcome for their children even though it would put a financial strain on them. Dylan, a hardworking and humble man, works as a Sheriff Deputy for the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office. He puts his life at risk every day in an attempt to help provide for a safer community. Instead of the short drive home, following his shift, Dylan drives to Iowa City to be by his wife’s side as they hope for the best for their children. As a result, substantial costs have accrued including parking, gas, and food.
On 1/22/2020 they were put on a wait list for the Ronald McDonald house and also a hospital assisted hotel room. Both have a very long wait list, as a result, a hotel room may be needed nightly to stay close to their children.
We are hoping to raise money for a family deeply involved in the community, in order to help out in even the smallest way during this difficult time. Any amount raised will help the Leeches be near their two new bundles of joy. The money will be used for hotel rooms, transportation costs, parking costs, and general needs.
We ask that the community show their support for a Deputy who puts his life on the line, despite knowing his wife and children will spend over 120 days in the hospital.
For an unforeseen number of months, Naomi will be unable to return to work due to babies possibly needing oxygen and other premature problems. These months will require Dylan’s salary to pay the mortgage, car payment, and also all other bills associated with having children!
Naomi and Dylan would do anything for anyone. I’ve seen this first hand when I moved residences this past year. Dylan came over after a full shift and helped me pack all my household items in a U-Haul. They would do anything, for anyone, at anytime.
The Leeches thank everyone for all the care packages and assistance that we have already received.
On behalf of the Leeches, we thank you for any generosity you are able to send, even if just a prayer.
