Tennyson McFarlane " Mackie", is a 37-year-old firefighter from Kingston, Jamaica. On August 3, 2015, Tennyson responded to a routine house fire, while inside the structure, Tenny was injured when a propane tank exploded. Tenny received 3rd-degree burns to his face and hands, as well as 2nd-degree burns to both of his legs. Two other firefighters were injured in the fire, but not as severely as Tenny.
Medical staff in Jamaica have given him the best care that is available but now, he needs more specialized care. They do not have the equipment nor the specialized training necessary to deal with injuries as severe as Tenny's. Tenny must get treatment here in the States, or face the risk losing his fingers. Additionally, if Tenny does not receive treatment here in Miami, he may never be able to do something as basic as dressing himself again. Tenny will need to be in Miami for at least six months in order to receive multiple surgeries, and countless hours of specialized occupational, and PTS therapy, specifically for burn patients.
Tenny asked his wife to let his Facebook friends know that today, for the first time, he was able to make a fist. He was so proud of himself, but he was also in a great deal of pain. There is no doubt that the healing process will come at a great cost to Tenny, both physically, and mentally.
The money raised will mostly be used to house Tenny, as the need to find him housing near JMH will be crucial to his ability to access therapy. As part of his emotional and mental therapy, he will need to be able to see his wife and two-year-old daughter for moral support. Their visit from Jamaica will be financially difficult for this family unless an airline is willing to help sponsor this travel.
