When Love is Real - A Liver Transplant Story

When Luciano became ill with genetic liver disease 3 years ago, he was put on the transplant list. Darlene has taken care of and stood by Luciano’s bedside through the worst of times. He has been in and out of hospitals. During a brief good period, Luciano and Darlene wed. He knew that he found his treasure on earth and whatever time he had, he wanted to show her how much he loved her. Now, several of his family members volunteered but did not meet the criteria to be donors. That is when his wife, Darlene, decided she wanted to volunteer to be his donor. Although she is a different blood type, it is possible now with advances in medicine. She went through rigorous testing before finally being approved. She has had to miss many work days. She is the only one able to work right now. It has been very hard to watch her husband’s health decline. The transplant takes place on December 5, 2023. She will again not be able to work as she recuperates and then cares for her husband as he recuperates.
