This family has been facing an incredibly difficult year — one filled with medical challenges that have changed every part of their daily life.

Since January 2025, Alex’s health has taken a drastic and unexpected turn. He was diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa, a painful autoimmune disease that causes severe, recurring infections. He has gone through two rounds of PICC line antibiotics — one leading to a frightening hospitalization with symptoms of sepsis — and he has already undergone three surgeries. Along with this, Alex has lived with Type 1 diabetes since childhood, which makes every infection more dangerous. Before he became sick, Alex was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family, but his condition has made it impossible for him to continue working.

At the same time, his wife, Émilie has been doing everything she can to keep the family moving forward, despite her own diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in January 2023. She continues to work and support the household while managing her MS, determined to maintain stability for their family. Their 13 year old child is also living with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, a condition that requires frequent medical appointments and continuous care.

Balancing the needs of three serious medical conditions in one household has been overwhelming.

The family has applied for government support but are facing repeated delays and administrative barriers. Despite years of contributing, working, and doing everything asked of them, they are now left without the help they urgently need.

Through all of this, what stands out most is the character of this family. They are loving, kind, and generous people — the type of people who would give the shirts off their backs, even in the midst of their own hardships. Their compassion for others has never wavered, and those who know them can attest to the warmth they bring into every space they enter.

They are a strong, resilient family, but the weight of everything happening at once has brought them to a place where they must reach out for support.
