Goal: Our Well Drilling Coordinator, CFO and Village Liaison Innocent Tembo is about to wrap up his work at Lion Camp for the 2025 safari year. So it’s time to do a couple of quick wells in Zambia before the rainy season sets in!

This time we’re doing SOGO: instead of BOGO (buy one get one for free) we’re doing (Support One Get One for free). If we can raise $3,000 I will match the rest and we’ll do two, not one wells….that’s TWO not one!

This year’s villages are: Nyankuwa and Julius Villages. They are about 8 miles from our most recent project. The 3 villages with our new wells drilled in last 12 months have experienced greatly reduced waterborne diseases. Innocent says the villagers feel and look better! In his words: a true game changer!

Background: Due to severe drought in Zambia and southern Africa many wells (bore hole is the term used in Zambia) have either fallen in disrepair or need replacement. The local government has failed to adequately maintain, or repair bore holes that are no longer working properly. Below is a before and after picture of the well we replaced in Chenkwe in October 2024! We have 3 total wells running now and they are getting it done!

The first well (if you can call it that) was the old remnant of a proper well with pump. It has been in disrepair for years. It took the villagers 30 mins of scooping water out of the hole to fill a 5 gallon bucket! The villagers then had to filter the water due to its surface contaminants and dirt content. Now the villagers use the new pump and can fill a 5-gallon bucket in a minute and the water is clean and clear…coming from a new pipe that terminates 150 feet below ground into a perfectly pure aquifer.

We will ride a metric century (100km’s) on 11/1 or 11/2 in solidarity with these villages in Zambia!
