Riding for a wheelchair for Olaoluwa
Donation protected
Born on the 14th of June, 1996, my nephew, Olaoluwa Gbadebo suffered from asphyxia at birth, and at 6 months old, following a series of examinations, his condition was diagnosed as Cerebral Palsy.
From birth, Olaoluwa suffered from regular bouts of seizures with frequent colds and pneumonia which often led to periods of hospitalisation. At 9, he was fitted with a Stomach Feeding Tube (PEG), (which remains in place today), as he became increasingly intolerant to the oral intake of any liquids, and at 13, he underwent scoliosis surgery followed by tendon release surgery to relieve the increasing stiffness of his limbs, the dystonic posturing of his neck and trunk, the fixed contracture of all the joints in all his limbs, an inability to lie supine in bed and progressive scoliosis.
Today, whilst a reasonable amount of flexibility has returned to Olaoluwa and his sleep pattern has improved, he remains fully dependent, (especially on his two big brothers, Rotimi and Dayo), is still managed with diapers and presents occasional episodes of generalised tonic chronic seizures.

In spite of all this however, Olaoluwa who has limited communication skills, consisting mainly of gestural expressions, few words and kisses to show approval, wakes up with a smile and is always in good spirits.

The funds generated will be used to buy Olaoluwa a Rifton Hi/Lo Activity Chair with all the accessories to aid with his care and to increase his quality of life, and to have all shipped from the UK to Lagos in Nigeria where he lives!
A Rifton Activity Chair (http://www.jiraffe.org.uk/products/seating/activity-chair/ )
This year, I have decided to ride in the largest charity ride in the world, the Prudential 100 in London on the 4th of August, to show support for Olaolwa's parents, who set up a foundation in Nigeria to raise awareness for cerebral palsy, (www.benola.org), and to use this opportunity to raise the funds to purchase this Activity Chair (circa £4,600 ex VAT) and have it shipped to Lagos (circa £1,000).

Please support me in this... I really would be super grateful as these chairs are expensive but are so helpful in improving life for those that need them. Any monies raised over and above the £5,700 I think I'll need, will be donated to the Benola CPI charity.
