We are thrilled to be running the TCS New York City Marathon on November 6th in support of WHEDco, a nonprofit organization in the South Bronx – the poorest urban Congressional District in the country. WHEDco has worked for over 30 years to ensure that children and families living in the South Bronx have access to the same kinds of opportunities that many of us take for granted: safe homes, quality education with positive role models, job opportunities with sustainable incomes, and access to the arts, to name just a few.

WHEDco’s Education and Youth Development initiatives are especially inspiring. Our dear friend Katie heads up a fantastic team serving over 1,200 school-aged children each year, setting them on a path to college from an early age. Their year-round programs include early childhood education, academic and arts enrichment, peer-led sexual and reproductive health education, tutoring and SAT prep, internship and scholarship opportunities, and college campus visits. In a community where less than 15% of adults have college degrees, 100% of the high school seniors in WHEDco’s Teen Program enroll in college each year and are often the first in their families to do so. WHEDco also helps parents in a variety of ways so that they can better advocate for their children.

Training for the race will certainly be challenging; however, knowing that each step contributes to a great cause will make the feat worthwhile. We are very grateful for your support!
