I don't understand how this could happen. I'm a single mother raising two beautiful girls. My older daughter is 15 and is on the autism spectrum and that requires a lot of sacrifice. She can become very violent sometimes and has a tendency to sneak out of the house . She cannot be left alone. I can't afford specialized day care for her so I can only work when she is safely in school. So, I got a job with the school district to match her school times. Working for a school district as a cafeteria manager doesn't pay very well but it's enough to get by. And then there's the summertime when we're still considered employed but we aren't getting paid. Luckily, I found a summer job that would provide summer income and take care of my daughter. And then COVID-19 came and took it away. I tried for unemployment but since they consider me still employed by the district I was denied. I tried reaching out to the disabilities office for more assistance and was denied that as well.
So what about someone like me? What about a family like mine? Where do we fit in the Coronavirus relief resources? How are we supposed to get through these next two months with no income? My fingers are crossed for an eventual stimulus check but what about right now?
