Thriving Authentically: What I wish I'd known as Neurodivergent Teen
A Fundraiser + Free Webinar Hosted by Sorcha Rice (@ot_sorcharice)
Earlier this year, my cousin Caitlin passed away. She was a gifted artist and musician with a brilliant, sensitive soul. Caitlin inspired me to live more authentically—to embrace who I am and to share that with others. This fundraiser is in her honor.
This fundraiser is for every neurodivergent teen who feels like they don’t fit. It’s for every young person who’s masking, burning out, or struggling to survive in a world that wasn’t built for them.
My Story
As a teenager, I struggled deeply. I didn’t understand myself—and the world didn’t seem to understand me either.
Like so many neurodivergent young people, I masked every day. I battled burnout. And I reached a point where I didn’t want to keep going.
But through connection, safety, and finally getting the right support—I survived. I healed. And, slowly, I began to thrive.
Now, as an autistic adult and occupational therapist, I want to build spaces I needed when I was younger.
The Vision
I am raiding funds for Neurodiversity Ireland to create supportive, affirming environments for neurodivergent teens, including:
- A sensory garden in Caitlin’s memory – a peaceful space where teens can regulate, connect, and simply be
- A teen support group – offering regular, neurodivergent-friendly activities rooted in autonomy, connection, and joy
These spaces will be designed with neurodivergent teens—free from judgment, free from pressure to ‘fit in.’Spaces where survival can grow into thriving.Where being different isn’t just accepted—it’s celebrated.
Free Webinar (open to teens, parents & educators)
To support this fundraiser, I’m offering a free webinar for neurodivergent teens, their families, and the people who support them.In it, I’ll share:
- My lived experience of autistic and PDA burnout
- What actually helped me cope as a teenager
- Stories of strength, sensitivity, and the power of being understood
Why Neurodiversity Ireland?
I’ve chosen to work with Neurodiversity Ireland because of their neuro-affirming, family-centered approach.Their work is grounded in real lived experience and a deep belief that every child deserves to be supported as their full, authentic self. You can hear more from co-founder Nessa Hill in her beautiful interview on the Learn Play Thrive podcast.
