Little Heart, Big Fight: Local Family Loses 2 Year old Son

A parent’s worst nightmare has become a heartbreaking reality for the Ocasio family. Their brave and beautiful 2-year-old son, Santiago, faced unimaginable challenges from the start—enduring open-heart surgery at just three days old and battling ongoing heart complications ever since. Though despite all challenges, his smile always glowed from ear to ear.

On Christmas Eve day, Santiago woke up full of joy, his face lit up with excitement to attend daycare and celebrate the holiday. But by mid-morning, his oxygen levels plummeted unexpectedly, and he was rushed to the hospital. Despite every effort, Santiago tragically passed away, leaving his family shattered and searching for strength during this difficult season.

This grieving mother and father, Valentina and Arnaldo, are now returning home without their baby, holding onto courage not only for themselves but for Santiago’s 3-year-old sister, whose birthday is just days away.
