We are fundraising to purchase approximately 132,000 3M 9501+ KN95 masks from government surplus!
Our goal is $10,000 to purchase the masks and pay for their transportation from Virginia to mask blocs for free distribution across the country. Sales like these are rare, especially in these quantities, and a bulk purchase of this size has the potential to supply mask blocs across the Pacific Northwest, California, and Southwest to help them distribute free masks to folks in need in their communities.
Since we became aware of this sale through some East Coast contacts, we have reached out to groups across the West to participate. This quantity of masks will supply mask blocs in Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Los Angeles, San Jose, Las Cruces, Del Norte, Long Beach, Orange County, San Diego, Las Vegas and Phoenix, enabling all of us to supply our communities with high-quality PPE for free.
Currently, a pallet of 12,000 KN95 masks is $200 each. We are aiming to secure all eleven of the remaining pallets, as we don’t know when another opportunity like this will arise. All funds raised will be used for the following purposes:
- Mask purchase
- Freight shipping to transport masks from Winchester, VA to Western hubs for pickup by participating blocs
- Rental vehicles/equipment and gas needed to transport the masks to mask blocs
- Tolls on highways on the way to and from delivering masks
- Insurance policies for rented vehicles/equipment
- Food and accommodations for those driving long distances to pick up/deliver masks
- Train tickets if necessary for drivers to get to rental vehicles
- Mailing masks to participating blocs
- Wages lost if a person delivering masks must take off work and cannot volunteer their time
- Any money raised beyond what is needed to cover these expenses will be equitably redistributed to participating mask blocs to use for future mask purchases.

WHAT IS A MASK BLOC:
Mask blocs are mutual aid groups (and sometimes individuals) that distribute high filtration masks in their local communities for free—sometimes along with other items that help reduce the spread of airborne illnesses, such as air purifiers and rapid antigen tests.
