Hey :)
Ich habe mich entschieden 2 Monate meines Auslandsjahres in Kenya zu verbringen, momentan bin ich auf der Mfangano Insel im Viktoriasee. Hier lebe ich zusammen mit Samuel, Meroline und ihren Kindern. Die Familie ist Teil der Wakinga Community, das ist eine der kenyanischen Gemeinden, die die Regierung, wegen mangelnder Kapazität, nicht finanziell unterstützen kann. Deshalb hat Samuel die Sagrema Foundation gegründet (https://sagremafoundation.wixsite.com/communityempowerment). Diese Stiftung sammelt, mit Hilfe von Frewilligen aus der ganzen Welt, Spendengelder, um Projekte umzusetzen, die das Leben der Wakinga Community deutlich verbessern.
FOLGENDE PROJEKTE sind gerade im Gange und benötigen noch finanzielle Unterstützung:
1 GESUNDHEITSKLINIK
Die Klinik, die Samuel mit Hilfe von Freiwilligen aufgebaut hat, ist die einzige im Umkreis von 12 km. 12 km die wir in wenigen Minuten mit dem Auto fahren können, aber die Menschen auf der Insel haben weder Autos, noch öffentliche Verkehrsmittel zur Verfügung. Die einzige Möglichkeit die Klinik zu erreichen ist also zu Fuß oder mit dem Motorrad (was sich lange nicht jede Familie leisten kann). Das Geld wird benötigt, um den Anbau der Klinik fertigzustellen.
Was noch gekauft werden muss:
Krankenbetten, Stühle, Tische, Wassertanks,Medikamente (die Apotheke ist in der Klinik), Notfall-Motorrad und ein Notfall-Boot, um Patienten zu größeren Kliniken auf dem Festland zu bringen
2 TRINKWASSER
Ebenfalls mit Hilfe der Freiwilligen, konnte Samuel Wassertanks aufstellen, die mit einem Filter verbunden sind. So stellt er als Einziger trinkbares Wasser für die Gemeinschaft zur Verfügung und das gratis. Allerdings gibt es bisher nur eine Station, an der die Bewohner Trinkwasser nehmen können.
Was noch gekauft werden muss:
Wassertanks, Wasserpumpe (um das Wasser vom See in die Tanks zu pumpen), PPR- und Gi-Rohre, Wasserhähne und eine weitere Filteranlage.
3 SCHULEN
Die Sagrema Foundation unterstützt ebenfalls eine der lokalen Grundschulen. Dort werden Momentan neue Klassenräume gebaut, allerdings kann der Bau ihnen finanzielle Unterstützung nicht beendet werden. Außerdem haben die Schülerinnen und Schüler kaum Schulmaterial und die Schuluniformen sind teilweise sehr kaputt.
Was noch gekauft werden muss:
Zement, Sand, Türen, Fensterscheiben, Silikon, Material für die Installation von Elektrik, Wandfarbe, Pinsel, Schreibmaterial, Schuluniformen, Stühle und Schreibtische.
4 GARTEN
Ein weiteres Projekt ist der Garten, dessen Obst und Gemüse nicht nur Samuels Familie, sondern auch den anderen Bewohnern dienen soll. Aufgrund von mangelndem Material, ist dieser Garten aber viel zu viel Arbeit für die Leute, die sich momentan darum kümmern. So kann die vorhandene Fläche nicht richtig genutzt werden. Hinzukommt, dass die Tiere hier frei herumlaufen. Was für die Tiere vielleicht ganz schön ist, kann über Nacht die ganze Saat zerstören und Krankheiten übertragen.
Was noch gekauft werden muss:
Tragbare Wasserpumpe, Tanks, Rohre, Wasserhähne, Sprinkler, Zaun-Material, Hühnerstall-Material und Hühnerfutter.
WARUM SPENDEN?
Die Menschen auf der Insel leben ein ganz anderes Leben als wir. Sie leben mit der Natur und ihren Nachbarn statt sich mit Mauern davor zu schützen. Auch die Tiere leben mit ihnen und nicht für sie. Die Leute hier leben nicht zum arbeiten, sondern arbeiten, um leben zu können. Sie tun das, was sich gut anfühlt und fokussieren sich nicht auf, das wovon sie irgendwann mal profitieren können. Das und viel mehr, kann ich von ihnen lernen. Aber leider ist auch das Leben hier nicht sorgenfrei. Zu wenig Trinkwasser, Essen und ärztliche Versorgung können tödlich sein. Solche Sorgen musste ich mir glücklicherweise noch nie machen… wir können nicht entscheiden, wo wir hinein geboren werden, aber wir können entscheiden, wie wir damit umgehen. Wenn du also Leuten helfen willst, die nicht ansatzweise so privilegiert aufwachsen durften wie wir, dann hör auf mit den Ausreden und tu es!

The family is part of the Wakinga Community, which is one of the Kenyan communities that the government cannot support financially due to lack of capacity. Therefore, Samuel established the Sagrema Foundation (https://sagremafoundation.wixsite.com/communityempowerment). This foundation, with the help of volunteers from all over the world, raises funds to implement projects that significantly improve the lives of the Wakinga community.
THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS are currently underway and still need financial support:
1 HEALTH CLINIC
The clinic Samuel built with the help of volunteers is the only one within a radius of 12 km. 12 km that we can drive in a few minutes, but the people on the island have neither cars nor public transport. So the only way to reach the clinic is on foot or by motorbike (which not every family can afford for a long time). The money is needed to finish the extension of the clinic.
What still needs to be bought:
Hospital beds, chairs, tables, water tanks,medicines (the pharmacy is in the clinic), emergency motorbike and an emergency boat to take patients to bigger clinics on the mainland.
2 DRINKING WATER
Also with the help of the volunteers, Samuel was able to set up water tanks connected to a filter. This way, he is the only one providing drinkable water to the community, and it is free. However, so far there is only one station where residents can take drinking water.
What still needs to be bought:
Water tanks, water pump (to pump the water from the lake to the tanks), PPR and Gi pipes, taps and another filtration system.
3 SCHOOLS
The Sagrema Foundation also supports one of the local primary schools. At the moment, new classrooms are being built there, but the construction cannot be finished without financial support. In addition, the pupils have hardly any school materials and some of the school uniforms are very broken.
What still needs to be bought:
Cement, sand, doors, window panes, silicone, material for installing electrics, wall paint, brushes, writing materials, school uniforms, chairs and desks.
4 GARDEN
Another project is the garden, whose fruits and vegetables will serve not only Samuel's family but also the other residents. However, due to a lack of materials, this garden is far too much work for the people who are currently taking care of it. Thus, the available space cannot be used properly. In addition, the animals here roam free. What may be quite nice for the animals can destroy the whole seed overnight and transmit diseases.
What still needs to be bought:
Portable water pump, tanks, pipes, taps, sprinklers, fencing material, chicken house material and chicken feed.
WHY DONATE?
The people on the island live a very different life than we do. They live with nature and their neighbours instead of protecting themselves from it with walls. Even the animals live with them and not for them. The people here don't live to work, they work to be able to live. They do what feels good and do not focus on what they can profit from someday. I can learn that and much more from them. But unfortunately, life here is not carefree either. Too little drinking water, food and medical care can be fatal. Fortunately, I have never had to worry about such things... we cannot decide where we are born into, but we can decide how we deal with it. So if you want to help people who didn't get to grow up nearly as privileged as we did, stop making excuses and do it!
