Wentworth Wheelchair Accessible Playground

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the installation of a new, inclusive playground at our institution. One of only a handful in the province, this equipment is wheelchair accessible, including a wheelchair swing, and features a number of sensory stimuli! All kids deserve a chance to play, so our goal with this new structure is to provide an inclusive play experience, allowing for diversity in playground interactions and assisting in the development of social skills. Additionally, the integration of sensory stimuli will encourage the development of motor skills, providing a sense of adventure and investigation. This playset is a meaningful new addition to Wentworth and Cumberland County area because it gives all children, despite the challenges they may face, a place to play. The equipment even includes a chart featuring the ASL alphabet, allowing kids to learn something new in a fun environment! 


While this project has been in the works for a few months now, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused funding to be limited. Plans of multiple fundraisers for this playground unfortunately got cancelled in the summertime and there have not been opportunities for others. A joint federal and provincial grant has helped with a portion of the project expenses, however, our organization is still responsible for some in-kind expenses of our own, plus other maintenance costs. Donations of any amount would be graciously accepted to be put towards this new wheelchair accessible and sensory friendly  playground.
