Please help us save our sweet old girl, Frank!
Frank (yes! she is a girl! and she is Frank!) is having surgery, and she needs our help! Hers is a long, sad story of neglect, but we are committed to making sure that the ending of this story is a happy one!
Frank was found last September by one of our Junior Volunteers. We don't know how long this sweet, elderly girl was on the streets, but we do know that she was very sick and badly wounded when these compassionate young men found her. We rushed her directly to the emergency hospital, where she was treated for a large, infected wound on her side and a severe upper respiratory infection. She also had a large tumor removed from her other side (it was benign). In addition to these critical issues, Dr. Scriffignano identified a potential melanoma on one eye and a small tumor on her jaw, but her fragile health has not allowed us to address these issues, and her doctors have instead been closely monitoring her for changes. She was released from Verona Animal Hospital several weeks after her rescue, and has lived with Trish and Joe, her AoA foster family, since then, where she has become a beloved member of our Angels of Animals family.
Shortly after her rescue, we noticed Frank was having trouble breathing. Tests revealed that she has chronic asthma, so we began medication and got her an asthma inhaler, which she uses daily. In December, her fur started falling out, and we visited more specialists, where we learned that Frank also has severe food allergies.
In addition to all of this, poor little Frank needed dental surgery. After two surgeries (the first in December, and the most recent on March 1st), her mouth was more inflamed than ever, she was not healing, and she was suffering. Our veterinarian diagnosed her with stomatitis, an autoimmune disease that causes a severe allergic reaction to the bacteria that all cats normally have in their mouths. Frank is allergic to her teeth, and this allergy can be fatal if left untreated. The only "cure" for this terrible disease is full extraction of all of Frank's teeth, followed by intensive medical support to ensure that she heals properly.
Today, we took Frank to see Dr. Rice at Veterinary Dental Specialists in Mount Laurel, a Board Certified Veterinary Dental Specialist. She is receiving top-quality care, and will have her life-saving surgery tomorrow. This will require two nights of emergency care at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, as well as care at the dental hospital before, during, and after her surgery.
After Frank recovers, we will continue to pursue solutions for her chronic asthma with an internal medicine specialist, and we will address the potential melanoma on her eye when she is strong enough for those procedures. But first, we need to get her through these surgeries!
Cats like Frank are the reason Angels of Animals was founded - sick, elderly, wounded, and alone, Frank found her angels just when she needed us the most. Please help us give her the very best care. Costs for her current surgery and an internal medicine consult will run over $5000. Please give what you can, and help us show Frank what a healthy, happy life can be.
Thank you for your support. We will post regular updates here and on our Facebook page @angelsofanimalsinc.
