Hello, my name is April Wells and I have two wonderful boys, (Jericho and Lu) a beloved daughter-in-law, (Sierrah) and a beautiful grandson (Everest) on the way. Please help us stay in our home of ten years. If my husband (Wayne Wells) and I lose the house that we just paid off in 2020, I lose my dream of a mini-farm and the farm stand that will fund our eventual retirement and give our community a local source for fresh fruits, veggies, and meats.
In addition, our son and daughter-in-law will lose the home they wish to raise their son (and any future children) in. Also, because they live off of only his wages (she has medical issues that prevent her from working at least while pregnant, maybe beyond), they will end up in low-income housing. They currently live in a tiny mother-in-law home on our property. We are finding out that having a mother-in-law home on the property makes loans complicated and expensive.
Wayne, Lu and I have no idea where we will go. It is not from a lack of trying. I tore my tendon in my foot and ended up losing my job when it didn't heal fast enough for my former employers' standards. While I was off of work, covid caused my husband to lose a lot of hours when his job was shut down for exposures, stretching our money even tighter. Now I am working, my husband is working full time, my sons both work, but we are still catching up on the bills that accrued while I was hurt.
My husband and I have both spent nearly a decade pouring all of our money plus some, (our family has been a tremendous help ❤) into paying off this house. After moving in with Wayne's grandmother, and even back in with Lu's father to rent out our home to make extra income, we are still financially drained. Our home and property are beautiful, but the house is over 100 years old, and has required a lot of maintenance.
Just in the past year, we have had both furnaces give out, and we were only able to finance one. We have had to run space heaters to keep the pipes (and ourselves) from freezing, which has made our electric bill skyrocket. We have spent over $78,000 on paying off the house alone, not to mention all the other expenses we have. We are doing the best we can, even applying for second jobs. But it just isn't enough. We just need time.
We have run out of time on our property taxes and, though we have applied to multiple relief organizations, our township treasurer has made it perfectly clear that there will be no extensions before foreclosure. MIHAF (Michigan Homeowner's Assistance Fund) has our application, but is processing tens of thousands of applications. (Pray for them in their work!) A phone call to MIHAF on Friday has made it clear that we may not have our application processed in time to receive the funds by the March 31st deadline. Many other organizations are waiting on our acceptance or denial from MIHAF, so they won't move forward without our application's processing.
You can provide us with the time we need to catch our breath and create our future in the home that we have worked so many years for. To lose it now would be devastating. Thank you so much for anyone that can help us. Your time and consideration is greatly appreciated!
