Less than a month from now, activists from across Scotland will be marching together at the national 'Welfare not Warfare' demonstration in Glasgow.

While the British government accelerates defence spending, we are witnessing devastating cuts to public services and social security, including brutal reductions in disability benefits.

Stop the War Scotland and the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament have called on anti-war activists, anti-cuts campaigners, trade unions and individuals to join this demonstration on the 10th of May 2025, in response to Starmer’s warmongering austerity government.

This year alone, the Ministry of Defence is receiving an additional £2.2 billion—on top of the £13.5 billion increase Starmer previously pledged. Meanwhile, our public services continue to rot, and our children, the poor, the sick, and the disabled are being sacrificed for the profits of arms dealers and City bankers.

For over 15 months we have seen the brutal genocide in Palestine unfold, aided and abetted by British arms. Yet this government preaches about “security”? As more and more money is spent on arms and bombs to kill people abroad, our welfare security is continually undermined.

Enough is enough – The message to our governments is resoundingly clear: Fund hospitals, schools, wages and homes here in the UK. Stop funding war, genocide and death. Scrap Trident and Stop arming Israel. We demand “Welfare not Warfare”
