Welcome Home Veteran Laura

Laura Meza is a U.S. Army combat veteran, who just returned home after 14 years of being separated from her parents, siblings, child, and granddaughter.

Laura served in Iraq and suffers from severe PTSD and is a survivor of sexual assault. Living with the memories of her traumas, Laura began self-medicating with drugs and alcohol. This culminated in Laura serving time in prison and one year in ICE detention; she was deported to Costa Rica in 2009. She was thousands of miles from the child she strove to provide for and the family she loves. Because of her faith and patriotism, she never gave up on the hope of coming back to the U.S. to be reunited with her family and receive proper medical treatment.

Recently, thanks to pro bono work from Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Laura was able to return to the U.S. under a new humanitarian parole program through the Immigrant Military Members and Veterans Initiative (IMMVETS) where she has been reunited with her family. This was possible because of the Biden Administration's new initiative to return veterans who have been unjustly removed from the United States.

Laura served her country and needs your help now. Please donate and help support Laura as she transitions home.
