Help the children of WEJ get their playground back!
This is an exciting chance to help improve your school, benefit future kindergarten students, and bring back a primary play structure for the community. The Parent Council of W. Erskine Johnston P. S. is raising money to rebuild our kindergarten play yard in time for the start of school in September 2017.
The council is working with the WEJ primary teachers, kindergarten students and local expert playground designers, who will help us decide on the best play elements for the children. All money raised using this Go Fund Me group will go to the directly to the cost of the playground.
New playgrounds are a joint project between the WEJ Parent Council, the OCDSB and the City of Ottawa. This new playground has an estimated cost of $60,000, half of which will hopefully be funded by the school board and the city. The school council has fundraised $10,000 to date. The goal of this Go Fund Me campaign is to complete the funding by raising the remaining $20,000. To be ready on time, construction must occur this summer. Therefore we need to have our fundraising completed by early spring to get the playground this year.
Whether you're a WEJ parent, a Beaverbrook resident, family/friend of either, or just a kind hearted individual, we need and greatly appreciate your help and support. Any donation amount is appreciated and helpful!
Funding Levels
There are several different participation levels each with their own recognition. We will have a chance to thank all donors by hosting a ribbon cutting grand opening ceremony in the fall. Bronze donors will have their names displayed on a poster at this event. Silver, Gold and Platinum level can choose to have their names engraved on a beautiful plaque which will be unveiled at the ceremony and prominently displayed in the school foyer thereafter.

In August 2016, the kindergarten play structure at WEJ was removed. It was an aging play structure and no longer complied with current safety standards. The fenced-in kindergarten area is now a bare sand pit. This is the area where the children get a chance to explore, exercise and develop gross motor skills.
Here are some pictures of the playground elements we are considering. The goal is to have many stations where the kids can play, rather than a single play structure.
