I'm on disability. In 2002 I was injured in the army. The amount of money I make on disability is way below the poverty level. But I usually manage to get by.
I've tried to get a job over the years, but it's always been too much on me. I can't stand for very long without pain, and I can't sit for too long without pain. I have progressive disk disease and a narrowing spine.
I'm behind in rent because I was finally able to manage to get my VA doctor to send me to a neurosurgeon. And it cost me money that I can't really afford. So now I might be homeless because I tried to get help. I have a crushed disk in my spine in the neck that pinches on a central nerve. This causes pain throughout my body but also causes parts of my body, like hands and legs (even neck sometimes) to just stop working momentarily. I drop stuff. I fall.
The neurosurgeon collected my money and told me that my situation is hopeless. There's nothing to be done. I will just suffer in worse and worse pain while my body also continues to lose functionality until I die. Someone said I should get a second opinion, but the first opinion cost me my rent money and now I might become homeless.
So besides all that, my son is graduating from high school in June. He lives in another state. I can't afford to go see my son graduate.
I don't like asking for help. I am poor because I am injured, and my goal to heal so that I can stop being poor made me poorer. I don't want to be homeless because I tried to heal.
And I very much need to see my son graduate. It's the only light in my world right now.
Please, if you can, help.
