~Bringing Sunshine to the ICU~
Hello! Nice to meet you :) My name is Gill. I’m a travel ICU nurse who’s lived in California for the past 5 years!
I care deeply for all the patients and families that I take care of. Especially those that are experiencing end of life. As a nurse, often times there is not much I can do to comfort or console the families of my patients that are passing. I felt helpless. I thought to myself, what can I do to ease and comfort them?
That’s how this initiative was born.
We see you, we are here for you, and we care.
I hand-select blankets with happy, vibrant designs—sunflowers and blue skies—to bring a touch of the outside world into the sterile, gray environment of the ICU. These blankets are my gift to them; a bit of warmth in a cold room. When a patient passes, the family takes the blanket home as a lasting, soft reminder of their loved one.
What started as 5 blankets for the holidays grew to 12 the following year. My goal is to provide this comfort year-round, but I can’t do it alone. If you’d like to help us grow, please message me!
After self-funding our initial phase, I’ve set a goal to provide 75+ handmade blankets to ICU families this year. At approximately $25–$30 per blanket, your contribution directly fuels our mission to bring dignity and warmth to the bedside. Every donation—no matter the size—is a direct investment in patient comfort.
Small comforts, profound impact. We believe every patient deserves a sense of home no matter where they are.
Donations to WeCU Care are currently considered personal gifts and are not tax-deductible. 100% of funds go directly toward materials for ICU comfort blankets and kits.
