We want Jason to keep taking pictures!
We all know Jason shares his pictures freely with our community, as well as his time In taking them. I know he’ll figure out a way to replace this lens, so he can continue to do that...and isn’t going to ask for help … But maybe it would be nice if our community helped him out like he does us! It would be a pretty good Christmas gift!

From Jason’s Facebook post:
So this sucks …
The bad news: My thousand-dollar lens — if you’ve seen me around town at a game, a concert, a recital, or basically any event, that’s the one I’m always toting around — was stolen out of my car last week while it was in the Meriter parking ramp. (My mom had taken my car to work after we switched for a day so I could pick up a Christmas tree in her SUV.)
The good news: There are plenty of silver linings. The act was captured on surveillance camera along with a license plate of the getaway car, so while it’s unlikely I’ll see my property again, at least there’s a chance the offender(s) may be caught. The lens appears to be the only thing the criminal(s) made off with; a few Christmas presents still in the car and several other things were left untouched. The lens was in its case, not attached to a camera, so I didn’t lose that nor any photos that had not yet been transferred from a memory card. And my dad is resourceful and handy enough that he was able to obtain the glass needed to fix the car and handle it himself a week earlier than I could’ve by taking it in somewhere, and at about 15% of the cost to boot.
I had a pretty good run with this lens — I got it just before my cousin’s wedding 11 years ago, and have used it for about 70% of the some 170,000 pictures I’ve taken with my SLR cameras since. The vast majority of those came after I thought I had wrecked the lens when it fell out of my camera backpack while hiking down a dormant Hawaiian volcano a decade ago, only to accidentally find out it was still under warranty and could be fixed for $20. Even after only a year, I thought I had gotten my money’s worth out of it, so the last 10 years of 70-200mm/f2.8 photos have almost been a bonus.
Still, I’m going to miss that lens. :-(
