We value True Colors Flint Hills!

Friends, neighbors, and LQBTQIA allies in the Manhattan area,
Let's count the ways we love True Colors Flint Hills:
- They serve AND are led by queer and trans youth in the Flint Hills region of Kansas.
- They operate a drop-in center and safe space where youth can be themselves, socialize, peruse a library, participate in clubs and activities, and enjoy group meals.
- They provide access to comprehensive, values-neutral sexual health education through partnerships with community organizations.
- They provide information, community, and opportunities for self-advocacy that help queer and trans youth thrive.
- They do all of this as a non-profit!
Considering the wonderful benefits True Colors provides to our community, it was astonishing that the Manhattan City Commission recently voted against the recommendation that the organization receive $8,500 of alcohol tax dollars, or 1.6% of the City budget. Commissioners asserted that True Colors' work was too controversial or that they personally didn't agree with gender-affirming services.
According to The Trevor Project, access to accepting communities, LGBTQ-affirming spaces, and social support from family and friends are important factors in improved mental health and reduced suicide risk among queer and trans youth in Kansas and across the country. For many young people in our community, True Colors is a critical part of their overall health and well-being.
Do you want True Colors to not have to wait another year to get formal financial support for the benefits it provides our City?
Do you want to let the current commissioners know right now where your values (and vote) lie?
If so, please join us in donating to this fundraiser to give $8,500 to True Colors Flint Hills and show our love for the young LGBTQIA members of our community!
