We need funds to deliver supplies to the unhoused
Donation protected
Hey howdy hi. First off, I'd like to say in a nutshell that we have ran out of money for supplies for the unhoused and we are asking for contributions to help us continue to deliver supplies. Read on for the details.
I'm Bob-0, Captain of the North Bay Pyrate Punx. We're an organization that books punk shows and more. This fundraiser is about the more. For a just a bit over a year now we've been running supply runs to the unhoused and we've done 1 feeding, our 2nd coming up in a bit over a week (Nov 13th). We put in a lot of footwork and planning to make this happen. Last year in September we threw our 1st benefit to pay for the supplies we've been giving away. Here's a link to an article written about us and the benefit show we threw. https://pacificsun.com/punks-care-for-humanity/ We mostly gave away socks but also tampons, sanitary wipes, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hats, water, condoms, and snacks. The supply run was centered around socks because most of the members of NBPP have been unhoused before and know that it's easier to find a meal than a clean pair of socks and many times a person will go 2 weeks or more without a change of socks making it almost impossible to keep your feet healthy. Anywho, we're running low on supplies and some of us have used our own funds to purchase supplies. Unfortunately we can't continue onwards like that. We're planning on doing another benefit show to raise funds to buy more supplies but won't be able to put that event on until July 2023. In the meantime we're setting up this fundraiser to try to raise funds. As is true in our show booking, none of this money goes into our pockets.
Now I'll give you a few pictures of us to maybe show us as real people. There are 11 of us but we're not all in these photos. We may be punks, but we're also (though we don't all fit smoothly into boxes) artists, freaks, social justice warriors, deviants, anarchists, rebels, wierdos, revolutionaries, nerds, philosophers, radicals, and more. We're also not just a boys club, we have female and non-binary members. We're mostly (though we don't all fit smoothly into boxes) anti-capitalist, anti-transphobic, anti-homophobic, anti-sexist, anti-racist, anti-religion, anti-hierarchy, anti-nazi, anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism, anti-nazi, and anti-fascism. Man, I could go on forever but I'm not trying to sell us, just give you a feel for who we are. Here, let me introduce myself below.
Yeah, that's me. I know, I know, gorgeous, right? I'm also the most humble person you'll ever meet. I also tell bad jokes often. Now lemme give you a few group shots of the crew.
We've had hundreds of shows throughout the years, including many benefit shows, but it's just recently that we've branched out into community outreach. Here's a picture of some of the crew and other volunteers after our beach cleanup in Bodega Bay.
Here's one from our first feed, called Tamalish the System. If you don't get the hilarious pun, we served hand made Tamales. Like I said before, we don't think that food is on the top of the list for supplies needed for the unhoused. Not saying it's not a problem as well, many people have no money for food and, although there are programs like SNAP/EBT and some organizations doing daily feeding, may not have the ability to get themselves fed. When we give a feed, which currently we're trying to do monthly, we not only want to give people nourishment but also a treat. Tamales are delicious and I think we did a pretty good job. On November 13th we're going to be serving chili an corn bread.
Also, it's not easy to read, but the yellow sign in the Tamalish the System photo is advertising our mobile library that we take to shows and events we put on. Hmmm, what else I got. Wanna meet my best friend Alec and my wife Nikki? Okie dookie, here they come! Oh, that's right, they're part of the crew too!
Not sure if you can tell (sorry about the low photo qualities) but they're modeling our 'Pyrate Punx supports Womens Rights' shirts. What do we have here? It seems Peams is sitting on some steps and Jeff is really excited about it!
Ha! You caught me, that's not 1 photo! Well, that's just a sample of the regular hilarity that ensues when we get together. Check out Peams laughing so hard he might puke! It's such a glamourous shot, he'll be pleased I put it in.
Yeah, I know I'm rambling on. I'm almost finished. I know this has been quite a light-hearted request for funds but in all seriousness, what we are doing is quite helpful to the people we reach. We are in the midst of a housing crisis and people live on the streets. People do not have the necessities to meet everyday human needs. They are unable to get jobs because they can't get clean clothes, showers, or transportation. They fall into pits of despair and unless you've climbed out rock bottom you don't know what that is like. We know and are not trying to come off as angels or heroes, we're just a crew of kids trying to help out anyway we can. I wish we had the money to buy all the supplies we need but we don't. That's why we need more help. Please donate. I leave you now with a photo of me, my wife Nikki, and our pyrate pup Scrappy.
Ooooops. I shared that twice. Oh well.
