My name is Tomas. For most of my life I have always placed a great importance on reaching out and helping others. This is something that I have taught my children. I have also taught them the importance of recognizing when one is in need of help and asking for it without being ashamed. Life is full of so many obstacles, twists, and turns. One may be okay today but tomorrow may be a totally different story. Today the struggle is mine, the struggle is my family's. I am reaching out for help for myself and my family.
After serving in the military for 10 years we settled in Connecticut. After some time, we figured that we would be unable to keep up with the sky rocketing cost of living there so we decided to relocate to Florida with the hopes of being able to live a life in a place that we could be much more comfortable financially. My wife and I along with my children agreed that this would be of great benefit to the family.
My wife and daughter moved down first so that my daughter could start her classes at the local high school at the start of the school year. My son and I stayed behind to complete the move. We hired a moving company to pick up our things and they quoted us a reasonable price. Well, the day of the move after they packed all of our belongings into the truck they had me sign all the documents and told me what the actual cost was. To our surprise, the actual bill was twice the amount they had quoted. We were in a bind without a doubt. We had to turn the house keys in to our lanlord the next morning, no exceptions. I signed the documents feeling that I had no other choice and they hauled all of my family's belongings away.
All that we own is in that truck and in storage right now. We spent Christmas in an empty house. We have nothing. I am asking for help so that my family does not have to lose all that we own. For every month that we cannot pay this bill, they continue to add another $800.00 in storage fees. We are asking for your help today in order to avoid more storage fees. Your help would mean the world to me, it would mean the world to my family. It would break my heart if I had to lose so many things that are just so precious to me like pictures of my children, letters from them and from my wife written to me while I was deployed, personal documents, and so many other things that tell the story of my family over the span of 20 years. I am asking that you find it in your heart to read my story and just give it some thought. Any little bit will help and It would mean the world to a good hard working family that is currently facing a very difficult time.
Thank you so very much and God bless you for reading our story and our plea for help.
