My name is Patrick and I am fundraising for my newly expanded family. We learned about some heartbreaking news on a recent trip to visit family in Florida. Because of ongoing legal matters and the involvement of minors, I think it is best to leave out certain details.
What matters is that my wife and I have taken emergency custody of four wonderful children, ages 5-14. We decided to step in when we realized that they would likely be left in the custody of either their 18-year-old sister or the foster care system in northwest Florida. Their sister should not take on this responsibility at 18, and we will not let the foster system split the kids and place them with strangers or in group homes.
The original plan was for my wife to move into their rental home. However, the house is infested with insects and black mold and will be sold next month. So I secured a suitable rental home for my wife and the kids in Florida while I continue to work as a nurse in Atlanta. My wife is now a full-time caretaker and legal advocate for the kids.
The second home, upcoming legal expenses, and four new mouths to feed are putting a strain on not only my finances but my retired parents as well. We have had to purchase a lot of new clothing and household essentials. Our savings have taken a big hit getting them settled. I can afford the basics but was hoping to provide the kids with a better quality of life.
These children have experienced abuse and neglect, and we want to give them safety and happiness. Anything given will be used to help them have a safe, loving home and happy childhood experiences.
Thank you for your generosity.
