WC Boro Legal Funding: Unconstitutional Ordinance
Donation protected
UPDATE 10/24/2020
On October 21, Borough Council passed the Mayor's Emergency Declaration narrowly by a 4 to 3 vote. https://west-chester.com/DocumentCenter/View/14556/Ordinance---Social-Gatherings-and-Masks
The amended order limits residents to no more than 15 total people in their home at any time. Violators will be fined up to $300 each, and the fine will be issued to every person in the home. Additionally, anyone walking around outside within 6 feet of another person must wear a mask and could be fined up to $300 for that violation as well.
The mayor and borough council's actions seek to erode our basic constitutional rights, and it is imperative that we stop their actions immediately. A group of concerned citizens has a contacted an attorney to legally challenge this ordinance. We need to raise $5,000 to pay for the legal fees. The goal and mission for this fundraiser is to challenge the ordinance in court so that our rights as citizens can be reinstated. The funds for this campaign will be 100% directed to the legal fees required to bring this lawsuit to federal court.
While Mayor Herrin and Borough Council may have good intentions, the authority of government is not unfettered. The liberties protected by the Constitution are not fair-weather freedoms (in place when times are good but able to be cast aside in times of perceived trouble).
