Hi. So many people have reached out asking how they can support Taylor Wiedenhoeft and her family on her lung replacement journey. Here is a piece shared from her mom Erin. They do not know we are setting up the Go Fund Me but with many asking how they can support, we felt it would be a big help with costs of hotels, parking, gas, and things to make Tay more comfortable during this tough time.
love from her Aunties Tamara and Kristin (Annie)
“This is tough post and I won't go into all the details. I don't share a lot of Taylors journey "medically" on social media but I know there are alot of people out there who care and love her that I haven't been able to get back to over the last few days. Long story but I'll try to shorten up as much as possible...
Taylor was listed for a Double Lung Transplant a year ago on May 5,2025. (Not that she hasn't had enough of an uphill climb her whole life, the universe decided to throw a third transplant at her) We received a call Friday morning that they had a donor on life support that was a perfect fit (being she is very tiny, a lot of things needed to fall in to place to find a match for her) size, blood type and antibodies.
I'll pause her for a moment right now and ask that everyone pls send your thoughts and prayers, like I have many times, to the family who is grieving a loss so I can have more time with my girl ❤️ an unmeasurable gift that I can't put into words right now
Taylor and I flew air ambulance at 2pm on Friday after the call and landed in Edmonton around 3:30 pm. Darcy left right away and drove out with our vehicle and all of our clothes/items we may need as we don't know how long we will be in Edmonton for. Things went extremely fast once we landed and made it to the University of Alberta Hospital. Admitted, Pre-op, trying to take in all the names of dcts, navigate where to go, gowned up and into surgery by 5:45pm. Surgery was just over 8hrs, we talked to the surgeon just after 2 am and we were able to see Taylor in her ICU room around 3am.
A lot has happened in the last 72hrs, but the short version is Taylor has had some set backs since coming out of surgery and has kept us and the medical team on our toes in true Taylor fashion. She has not been able to come off being sedated at different levels for to long or the ventilator as of yet but is making slow progress forward. Her new lungs and little body just need some extra time to heal. We are going to go with "Slow and Steady wins the race" right now ...
Thank you to everyone for all the kind words, messages, prayers, thoughts and love. She feels it, we feel it ❤️
PS: life can change so fast sometimes, please hug the ones you love a little tighter today for me because I sure wish I could pick up and hug one of mine right now ❤️”
