Wayside Chapel Renovation and Security
Donation protected

The Wayside Chapel has been a comforting landmark and silent witness since it was built for the World's Fair in 1962. 6 or 7 years ago I noticed the pulpit was stolen out of it. Recently, all the pews were stolen and I decided that's it. We, as a community need to give back for the 60 plus years this has been open and available to the public. I have talked with the property owners who have donated this property and told them my intention to rally support and volunteers to fix this little chapel up and restore it while it is still easy to do so!
I have done most all the legwork so far to secure most of the repairs needing to be done. Among those lined up are:
- 1 woodworker to build 4 new pews
- 1 woodworker to build 2 small corner shelves and a small alter up front for prayers and flowers to be left
- 6 to 9 volunteers for any general labor needed
- A painting company to paint the inside and outside of the building
Work still needed to be secured:
- Foundation company to re-level the building as it is leaning to one side
- Electrical work needed to replace interior 4ft lighting and outside light timer/fusebox work.
- Floor tiling to be removed and replaced with something durable and similar
Here's a 10 minute documentary featuring the property owner's father speaking about the chapel, it's history and purpose:
Eventually, with the guidance of the newly-formed Gold Bar Crime Watch, we will solidify a plan to include a group of individuals who will take on the responsibility of maintaining this little chapel throughout the years to come. We ALL are proud of this little gem, I know it gives comfort to so many, and the notoriety of this landmark continues way past our county.
If you or somone you know can offer support for us to complete this project, I know that the entire community will be thankful you did so.
Thank you so very much!
