Wave's Winter Fundraiser

Here at Wave, we are getting ready for our winter fundraiser. Temperatures have already dropped in Northern Greece and, in the height of winter, often drop below 0.

We support people living in precarious housing conditions—either sleeping out on the streets, exposed to the harsh winter, or staying in squats without heating or electricity. Winter poses considerable challenges as they are significantly impacted by cold weather conditions. Many are undocumented and excluded from other services in the city, relying on Wave to receive warm clothing.

There has been a significant decline in material donations in Greece, making it increasingly difficult to provide essential winter clothing to our community. With fewer donations, we find ourselves in the position of having to purchase these items, adding an extra financial burden on our already limited resources.

This is where we ask for your support in providing warm clothing and additional winter items for our community. Our goal is to raise €3000 to purchase gloves, scarves, hats, thermal tops and bottoms, winter jackets, emergency blankets, and sleeping bags.

A pair of winter gloves costs us €9 to buy, a thermal set (top and bottom included) is priced at €25, a warm sleeping bag is €28 and a winter jacket €30. Additionally, we provide material aid to an average of 45 people per month who are detained in Paranesti and Xanthi Pre-Removal Detention Centres. Recently, there has been an increase in requests from people asking for winter clothing. Inflation has affected postal services, so each package costs us about €4.60 to send.

Any donation, regardless of size, will help us purchase these essential winter supplies. With €20 we could buy a thermal set or send four prison packages. Your support ensures that our community members and people detained in Paranesti and Xanthi Pre-Removal Detention Centres can be provided with the warm clothing they need to endure the cold winter months ahead.
