I have wanted to do something like this for quite some time, and I would like to share this opportunity with you all to partake in the blessing of giving to those in need. During the blessed month of Ramadan, my goal is to give to those less fortunate than myself by building a well in rural Bangladesh, in the village my parents grew up in. I intend to develop this well on behalf of my grandparents, who have passed on, hoping that those who drink from this well will make sincere dua for my loved ones who are no longer with us. I hope you can find it in your heart to join me in doing something good and become a light in this world.
" The best form of Sadaqa (charity) in Islam is to donate to build a water well or water pump to provide clean water to the poor and needy. This is a gratifying deed because it is a form of Sadaqa Jariyah (continuing source of reward) for yourself or your loved ones who are still alive or have returned to Allah. "
" The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Kindness is a mark of faith and whoever is not kind has no faith." (Muslim) because kindness is a quality of Allah (Ar-Rauf) and we cannot actualize true faith if we do not foster the seed of kindness Allah has planted within us. We come to know Allah through service of His creation. This is why the Prophet (PBUH) pleads us to "be kind for whenever kindness becomes part of something it beautifies it, whenever it is taken from something it leaves it tarnished." (Bukhari) As the poet Tagore said, "I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy." True giving is realizing that there is no giver and receiver because none of us own what we give or are given, we are only caretakers of it. Zakat is more than just giving a percentage of our wealth to someone in need, it is being grateful for the opportunity to be an instrument in God's Kindness. "
