Sare Ngai School Community Water Project

CONTEXT
Sare Ngai Lower Basic School is an underserved public school in the Fula Bantang area of The Gambia. It has no on-site water connection as yet. Children and parents must fetch water from a distant village well so students can drink, wash, and use the latrines. This daily burden reduces learning time, increases health risks, and places an unfair strain on familias.

OUR GOAL
Our goal is to improve health, dignity, and learning for 300+ children aged 6–13 by installing a borehole, storage, and solar pumping system. We are also aimimg to train a local operator to maintain it.

OUR INTERVENTION
We will install a sustainable water system designed for long-term, low-cost operation:

  • 30–40 meter borehole drilled by experienced local engineers
  • 3,000‑liter storage tank to ensure continuous supply
  • Three solar-powered pump and two solar panels for reliable, off-grid operation
  • Four complete taps and a control panel for safe distribution
  • System capacity: 3,000 liters every 15 minutes
  • Training for a local operator so the community can run and maintain the system independently

WHO WE ARE
We are a mixed team of Gambian and international professionals and activists practicing a bottom-up, community-centered model of sustainable development.
Through a local-led, international-supported initiative we will bring a reliable, solar-powered water supply to Sare Ngai Lower Basic School.

Our on-the-ground thecnical partner, Civilco Water and Electrical Solutions, is a Gambian company established in 2018 that specializes in borehole drilling and solar installations. Civilco has drilled 214 boreholes nationwide, including 41 community water supplies and 6 school systems, and brings proven technical expertise and local knowledge to this project

TIMELINE
Work will be completed in a two-week installation period once funds are secured.
