Water Well for Marhooma Alisha Malik

On Friday I sat with a colleague of mine, Alisha Malik. I spoke with her, laughed with her and I highlighted the successess she had and discussed my plans with her on further development.

On Saturday morning I received a call I was not expecting. As I answered the phone, a lump came to my throat and my eyes felt heavy. I was informed that she had passed away peacefully in her sleep.

At 27 years old Alisha was an instrumental member of the team, compassionate, understanding and a very hard worker. She was a statement of her parents efforts and their success in her upbringing was visible in her character.

Coping with a colleague’s death is not something that can be taught. Can you ever truly be prepared for getting the call telling you your colleague is gone? For sharing the news with your entire staff? For cleaning out their desk, full of handwritten notes and personal reminders of your friend?

We really do not know where life takes us. We do not know what life has planned for any of us. We should treat each other with kindness and respect because we do not know whether “see you next week” will materialise. Your last interaction with an individual in a workplace is also what offers you closure.

My comfort in Alisha passing comes from it being in the auspicious month of Ramadhan.

A hadith of the Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h:

”Whoever fasts one day seeking the Face of Allah, and that was his final action, will enter Paradise. Whoever gives charity seeking the Face of Allah, which was his final action, will enter Paradise.” Narrated by Imam Ahmad, 22813

We, as a group, have decided to raise some money to be given in her name. Here is the link to donate for the water well in Alisha’s name. She was family to most and was loved by more. This well will be made in her name and will work as sadqah jariah for her.
