The Mukutan Conservancy, a major land steward at the edge of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, is dedicated to creative and sustainable conservation and education. This summer I will build water harvesting tanks at strategic locations within the Mshipi region, bordering Mukutan Conservancy. Water scarcity and food insecurity are significant challenges for local communities, negatively affecting all aspects of life, including education.
The lack of reliable access to water impacts young people’s health; daily necessities such as drinking, cleaning, and maintaining hygienic conditions are not possible. Installing harvesting tanks would prevent children from having to walk upwards of six kilometers to collect water or from drinking unsanitary water.
Many children also leave their education due to lack of food and the high poverty levels in the area. Providing students with food and water will keep them in school, alleviate the burden on families struggling with food insecurity, and contribute to the overall health and stability of the Mshipi community.
For every $300 (2060 DKK) that is raised, we will be able to install a water harvesting tank with a filtration system in a school. Any funds raised beyond the cost of installing the water systems will be allocated to a feeding program for the schools in the Mshipi region.
I am excited to lead this project with the support of local builders. Your contribution will help us significantly improve the lives of children in Mshipi today and for generations to come.
