Warren Community Garden

 

Warren has always been a farming community. I guess you could say the dirt runs deep among residents of Warren. We know that farming is a way to connect to the earth and nature so we listen to our instincts to care for our well being by working the land.

 

We are very fortunate to have a new opportunity to further that need to connect with our roots. The town of Warren has a large piece of property, one that was once owned by The Wasley family for years.  Wings and Bobby Wasley sold this property to Warren with the understanding that we would use it, keeping Warren’s roots strong. The first use of this property is turning a parcel of this land into a community garden. It will be a place where the community can come together to dig their roots deep, to plant and produce for their families, for their pleasure and for others. With the sponsorship of the Warren Land Trust, the new community garden will be an opportunity for all Warren residents to come together in new ways.

 

Included in this new endeavor is the goal of providing for others. Too many families and communities are lacking food security in this day and age. While our food bank is an amazing resource, the challenge is providing fresh healthy produce for those in need. This community garden will have plots set aside for that specific goal of helping to provide that healthy food to those in need.

 

To do all this, providing a sense of community and growth does not just come from the man power of those who want to grow but it takes some funding for basic supplies: Fencing to keep the wildlife at bay, irrigation, and tools to help till the land and keep the weeds and such from creeping back.

There are a lot of helping hands that are needed as well and we are coming together to make this long standing dream a reality.
