Wanke-Leverett Family-Lahaina Fires
Donation protected
On August 8th, the Lahaina fires devastated all people in Lahaina. My mom and dad have lived in Lahaina since 1997, and became our home. My father "Coach Lloyd" instantly became a staple in the community. He started coaching the Lahainaluna Basketball team in 2001. He coached the Lahaina Menehune team for years until 2007, when he became the high school basketball coach for Maui High. During his time as a coach, he connected in a way to the community that he never had before. He was able to start his own electrician business while staying true to himself and the people of Lahaina. If you know "Coach Lloyd," you see the pride he has. So I'm starting this fundraiser on my father's behalf (son Chris Wanke). Thankfully they are safe, and so is the home they live in. But unfortunately, my parents don't own their home. They rent their property. And my father is on the verge of losing his business along with his retirement that was lost in safety deposit boxes burned in the fires. My mother, Kathryn, is no longer able to work. And the fear of having no choice but to leave the island they love so much has started to set in. With no income and no projected work, my father and mother have hit a crossroads I never thought I would see. My father has lost multiple units of equipment and over $90k in a day. The retirement and down payment for a home was gone. All my dad wants to do is be a part of the rebuilding of Lahaina. Any donations go directly to Lloyd and Kathryn to allow them to stay on Maui and help build back the community. Any donation is a blessing.
