Wanda Kindall Fighting Breast Cancer - Let’s Give Her an Army of Support!
Wanda Torrey Kindall has stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and is in dire need of financial support.
Wanda was diagnosed in 2007 while serving on military orders with the U.S. Army Reserve 81st Regional Readiness Center (RRC) in Birmingham AL. She subsequently had surgery to remove one of her breasts.

The cancer went into remission for a time, but in 2017 Wanda began experiencing pain again which was dismissed by her civilian primary care doctor. Wanda sought care at the Ft. Benning GA Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic where it was confirmed that the MBC had returned with a vengeance; metastasizing to Wanda’s brain and throughout her body.

Wanda, a fighter, continued to work in her job as a budget analyst supporting the U.S. Army; first enduring chemo treatments, then alternately receiving radiation treatment for cancerous lesions on her brain.
The VA has covered the costs for Wanda’s medical care, but she must travel 130 miles one-way from her home in Columbus GA to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta GA for treatments. The VA won’t pay for treatment any closer to Wanda’s home and she can’t afford to move to Atlanta.
Wanda was going back and forth to Emory for countless appointments; once every three weeks for harsh chemo/radiation “cocktail” treatments, follow-up appointments with the oncologists and radiologists, CTs, PET Scans, and MRIs.
Wanda got so physically sick and drained from the treatments that she had to take more time off from work than FMLA and donated leave would allow. She was taking leave without pay to keep her job with the Federal Government, but eventually, and reluctantly, had to medically retire.
Wanda is happy for the time she has with her two daughters; the youngest, Torrey, just graduated from high school and the oldest, Locquita, has blessed Wanda with four beautiful grandchildren.

Wanda's faith and positive attitude have kept her pushing through the sickness, excruciating pain and tears. She credits God for getting her this far!

Wanda's family and support crew have been a steady source of encouragement. So many others not pictured on this page have motivated Wanda to keep up her fight!

Two weeks ago, Wanda’s car transmission went out so now she does not have reliable transportation for her friends and family to get her back and forth to Emory for treatments and follow-on appointments.
Unfortunately, Wanda's disability/pension benefits from her Federal Government employment won’t begin for at least 90 days. Wanda retired from the Army Reserve in 2014, but she is not eligible to receive retirement benefits until age 62. Wanda has fallen deeply in debt due to her medical condition.
Wanda is a brave and proud warrior princess who won’t ask for help, but everyone needs a “battle buddy” assist at some time or another. During my time in uniform at the 81st RRC, I've witnessed Wanda Kindall help countless military and civil service personnel. I know, without a doubt, that if these people were aware of what she was going through that they wouldn't hesitate to help.
So... I am reaching out to locate 81st RRC and U.S. Forces Command colleagues to ask for their support.
I humbly ask for support from Wanda's friends, relatives, and anyone else who is blessed enough to help while she is in this battle.
My goal of $60k will get Wanda’s rent up to date, pay for reliable transportation (so her people can get her back and forth to Emory in Atlanta), keep food on the table and take care of other life’s necessities to get her back on her feet until the disability and pension kicks in.
Let’s help our battle buddy, Wanda Torrey Kindall, SFC (USA Retired), be victorious in her fight against MBC!
