Wallenberg Project: A Hero's Hero

Donation protected
Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish architect, businessman, and diplomat who courageously saved nearly 100,000 Hungarian Jews from certain death during the Nazi occupation. Wallenberg is one of the greatest heroes in history, saving more Jewish lives during the Holocaust than any other person, organization, or government. Yet very few people have ever heard of him.

With this campaign, I am hoping to change that.

This month, I will be traveling to Wallenberg's home country of Sweden in order to ski the Vasaloppet, the oldest and longest cross country ski race in the world. It is my intention to ski the race in Wallenberg’s honor, celebrating and sharing his memory.

In addition to racing in his honor, I hope to bring appropriate attention to our country’s need for more robust curriculum on moral heroes. By asking for monetary donations from friends, family, and conscientious members of our national community, I endeavor to raise at least $10,000 to enable a widespread incorporation of “A Study of Heroes” curriculum into schools and religious communities across the country.

The program has been used by 2,000,000 students throughout the United States. It teaches children about authentic moral heroes such as Raoul Wallenberg, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., Albert Schweitzer, and others. Most importantly, the program helps younger generations emulate these heroes and thereby keep the principles of heroism and peace alive.

Our children and grandchildren are our hope for a better world. From an early age, they are overwhelmed with exposure to celebrities in sports, entertainment, and politics, but they receive scant information about authentic moral heroes. Nevertheless, children can learn the difference between a mere celebrity and a hero, can distinguish right from wrong, and can learn to value virtuous moral character if given the chance.

Please join me in honoring Raoul Wallenberg and preserving his legacy by donating.
