Dear friends,
Starting October 28, 2026, I am arising at dawn to walk over 1,000 steps into the light of each new day as I remember the over 1,000 children (the majority), women, and men massacred by U.S. trained soldiers forty-five years ago in the remote countryside in El Salvador, in what is collectively known as the El Mozote massacre. I will keep this up until going to El Salvador in early December, where I will lead a SHARE Foundation delegation to accompany the communities of Yancolo, Cerro Pando, La Joya, and El Mozote in their commemorative events as they fight to keep the living memory alive and make real the hope for justice, reparations, and the overcoming having the highest poverty rate in all of El Salvador.

As I carry out my commitment to this daily practice of meditation and prayer, I invite you to contribute to the costs of these commemorations, and of other events organized by the Committee of Relatives of the Victims of the El Mozote Massacre and other Salvadoran partners of over the course of five days, events which designed to expose the historic truth, to motivate and to increase the possibility of healing and justice. My goal is to raise over $1,000 towards the projected $12,400 total needed to feed over 1,000 people, provide sound systems, and transportation.

45 years have passed, without justice and most of the massacre survivors, as well as the military officials responsibleIhave died. In this light it is humbling to experience the importance that the relatives of survivors and the faith and human rights’ organizations that support them place upon our small gestures of solidarity. They say, “when the peoples come together, they generate hope,” and “the blood of the victims of El Mozote cry out to us, compelling us to act.”

In solidarity and peace, Paul Fitch
