Walking in Memory of Jamesie – Supporting Road Victim Support NI-Donegal

This September, my son Marty and I will walk the final 100km of the Portuguese Camino to Santiago. We’re doing it in memory of my beloved son and Jamesie, and to raise funds for Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal, a chartable organisation that helps families like ours who have been affected by fatal road tragedies.

When Jamesie was knocked down, our world was shattered. In those first raw and overwhelming days, Debbie, Chairperson of Road Victim Support NI and a specialised bereavement and trauma counsellor, was a lifeline to me. Her kindness, compassion, and support meant more than I can ever put into words.

We chose the Camino not just as a physical challenge, but as a journey of reflection and healing. Every step we take will be in Jamesie’s memory, and for every family who knows the pain of losing someone too soon. It’s a personal way for us to honour Jamesie and carry his memory with love and purpose.

Our goal is to raise £4000 which will go directly to Road Victim Support NI-Donegal. These funds will help provide essential services like counselling, advocacy, and emotional support to individuals and families devastated by fatal road traffic collisions across Northern Ireland and Donegal.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to Debbie and the entire team at Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal for their tireless dedication and voluntary work. Their commitment to helping grieving families through the most unimaginable pain is nothing short of extraordinary.

This walk is something meaningful I can do. It’s my way of saying thank you and helping ensure no one has to face this kind of loss alone.
