Walking in Grace: Shanti, Emily & Kasie's Journey to Owekisa
Donation protected
Hi! We're Emily Wikel, Shanti Lux & Kasie Altamura — soul sisters, creative partners and devoted vessels of heart-led service. We are being called to Uganda this August to support an incredible organization: The Owekisa Project, an orphanage so dear to our hearts. Run by Nicholas and Cathryn (brother & sister), they provide warm and safe shelter, food to stay strong and healthy, medical supplies that save lives and education for a brighter future to these children. An organization that strives to care for the abandoned.
“Owekisa” translates to “grace”, and that is exactly what this project embodies: a space of grace, safety, healing and opportunity for some of the most vulnerable children in Uganda.
The Owekisa Project provides youth with safe shelter, education, mentorship, life skills training and medical supplies. It is a space of healing and possibility for children who have been displaced due to poverty, trauma or abandonment.
We feel deeply called to contribute our hearts and skillsets to this mission.
As trauma-informed space holders, we will be offering:
- Nervous system regulation practices
- Creative and expressive arts/music sessions
- Education workshops
- Group connection
- Support and love for caregivers on the ground
We are here to co-create a culture of compassion, care and wholeness. It’s about walking with the communities we serve.
Why Owekisa Project?
The Owekisa Project is a community-centered initiative doing essential work to care for vulnerable children and teenagers — many of whom have been displaced due to poverty, violence or loss. The project provides food, housing, education, medical and emotional support to help these young souls reclaim a sense of safety and belonging.
We’ve been invited to offer support to both the children, Nicholas and Cathryn. Our goal is to walk beside, to listen, to uplift and to co-create pathways of resilience and restoration.
What We're Raising Funds For:
We’re seeking to raise $20,000 to cover:
- Flights and ground transportation
- Modest lodging and meals
- Supplies for workshops (art materials, books, supplies, journals, etc.)
- A donation to support the ongoing needs of The Owekisa Project
Every contribution — whether it’s $5 or $500 — is a seed of support. If you feel inspired by this mission, please donate and/or share this campaign with your community and loved ones. Your support helps us serve where love and presence are most needed.
Thank you for believing in this vision. Thank you for walking with us
With love and deep gratitude,
Emily Wikel, Shanti Lux & Kasie Altamura
