WALKING FOR UBUNTU
A Mother and Her Son on Pilgrimage
Valença to Fátima • 364 km
________________________________________
1. FUNDRAISING STORY
At the age of 69, I, Vicky Bryant, am undertaking a 364 km pilgrimage on foot with my son, Luc Montgomery. We will walk from Valença to Fátima from 1 st to 20th June 2026. My daughter, Joelle Ambrose, will join us for the final week if the pilgrimage. We will also be join by Celine Demblon, who will walk with us for four days in tyhe middle of the journey. I am deeply appreciative of their presence, which reminds me that he pilgrimage, like UBUNTU itself is strengthened by the love and support of others.
This walk is deeply personal. As a mother walking beside her son, it is a journey of faith, gratitude, and legacy. It is also a walk undertaken for others — for those whose daily journeys are far harder than ours.
We are walking to raise funds for the Ubuntu Community Care Centre in Sabie, Mpumalanga, South Africa. The Centre supports gogos (grandmothers), vulnerable children, and young people who face poverty, instability, and loss.
Ubuntu means “I am because we are.” This pilgrimage reflects that belief. Every kilometre walked is dedicated to dignity, compassion, and hope.
