Walking for Cerebral Palsy

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding, support, and advocacy for individuals living with CP. It’s an opportunity to highlight the challenges they face, celebrate their achievements, and push for more research, inclusion, and access to essential therapies.

For our family, this month holds even greater significance, as Ted was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy in November 2024. CP is a lifelong condition that affects movement, muscle tone, and posture, and it varies greatly from person to person. Ted can walk and climb, but he struggles with low muscle tone, a tilted neck, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), which makes communication difficult.

To honour Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, Ted and I will be walking 300km in March to raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA). The CPA provides life-changing support, therapy, and research to improve the lives of those with CP. Their work is crucial in helping individuals like Ted reach their full potential.

Raising awareness is just as important as raising funds. CP is often misunderstood, and no two cases are the same. This month is about learning, advocating, and supporting those with CP so they can lead fulfilling, empowered lives.

As Ted grows, we expect more symptoms of Cerebral Palsy to become apparent. CP is a complex condition that can evolve over time, with new challenges emerging as children develop and their muscles, coordination, and communication skills are further tested.

This is one of the many reasons why Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month in March is so important. It’s a time to highlight the ongoing journey that families like ours go through, as we adapt to new challenges and continue learning about the best ways to support Ted.

Through our 300km walk for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA), we hope to raise both awareness and funds to help provide vital therapy, research, and support services for children and families navigating this journey. Every step we take is for Ted and the many others facing the challenges of CP. We have set a goal to raise $800

More information about CPA: Cerebral palsy is the most common childhood physical disability. And with an Australian child being diagnosed with CP every 20 hours your help is needed now more than ever.
Your donation today will help our dedicated therapists provide the vital ongoing support children and adults living with CP need, and help fund world leading research into the treatment and prevention of CP.
