Isaac was diagnosed with a very rare disease when he was 4yrs of age! His condition has so many unknowns and sadly for him, there are only a small number of documented cases worldwide, not to mention in Australia. He is literally 1 in a million!
As a result of the small number of documented cases, there is currently no cure and treatment options vary and can include anti inflammatory medications, steroids and injections.
His condition is often misunderstood because on appearance he looks well. However, the nature of the disease can cause his symptoms and pain levels to come on quickly and can last for minutes right through to weeks and months. When he is in a 'flare' (common term for a peak in symptoms), it can cause him to lose mobility and most certainly restricts his physical activity, along with suffering extreme pain. Isaac will often hide his symptoms and try to continue with normal activity because he doesn't want to feel 'different'.
He suffers significant levels of pain, regular and ongoing medical treatments and has many tears on this journey!
However, he now wants to try and start doing something positive to help others. He is having a Walk-a-thon in Bendigo on Sunday 27 October, so if you're interested, please let us know!!
The purpose of this is to raise awareness of the condition along with raising money to support research!
All participants for the 'Walking for Awareness' event are being asked to donate $5 per person to participate. If you are not able to participate but would still like to offer support, a small donation of your choosing would be incredible.
The money raised will be donated to research in the hope that we can one day soon find a cure.
