On Saturday 12th September 2026, I will be holding my second Walking Football Marathon to raise money for two causes that mean a great deal to me: Bushey & Oxhey FC and Children with Cancer UK.

Walking football has become much more than just a game. It brings people together, improves physical and mental wellbeing, creates friendships, and helps people stay active regardless of age or ability.

The funds raised will be evenly split to help support the continued development of Bushey & Oxhey FC, enabling the club to provide opportunities for local players and strengthen its role within the community. At the same time, a proportion of the funds will go to Children with Cancer UK, helping support vital research, specialist care, and families facing the unimaginable challenge of childhood cancer.

The Walking Football Marathon is about far more than completing a challenge. I hope it shines a light on an incredibly inclusive sport that welcomes people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Walking Football has helped countless people improve their physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence, and social connections, and I hope this event encourages even more people to give it a try and become part of the community.

At the same time, the marathon might push many of us well beyond what we'd normally do on a football pitch. There will undoubtedly be moments when we're tired, aching, and wondering why we signed up for this, but knowing that every donation will help support these two fantastic causes - and potentially inspire others to get involved in a sport that changes lives - will keep us going.
