Walking 12km for POTS Research
I was diagnosed with POTS via tilt table testing in 2019 after slowly declining over a few years from high levels of stress on all fronts and hitting a full and total burnout. However, having been a dancer most of my life and a very determined person, I knew I wouldn't let it stop me or hold me back. I sought out different treatment options to assist me and after my first exercise physiology appointment, my world changed and I knew this was what I wanted to do in the future. Life looks very different now- I work as a secretary for an allied health clinic and also as a dance teacher which I absolutely love. I'm also currently in my third year of my exercise science degree and will be going for my Masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology after. I'm so excited at the prospect of helping others who so desperately need it in the future. Whilst things are a lot more manageable for me now and I would consider it very mild in comparison with my past and others experiences, the nature of POTS means it can rear its head at the best of times but I believe knowledge is power and knowing what you are facing is half of winning the battle. I'm a big fan of what the Australian POTS Foundation are working towards and after attending their conference in 2022, I knew I needed to get involved wherever possible. I also knew this year I wanted to do the city to bay walk but that I wanted to give back to such a wonderful organisation whilst also raising awareness of such a temperamental condition that SO many suffer from. Therefore, my partner and I are excited to be walking 12km in this event to raise money towards a cause very close to my heart (pardon the pun).
