Walk for Peace 2020

Donation protected

My name is Sherri Keegan. I am from Denver, CO and I am walking for peace, from Alabama to Canada.
Please follow the progress of the walk @walk4peace20 on IG.
The walk is a month-long trek from the south(U.S.) to the Canada border.

Walk for peace is a peaceful protest in light of the ongoing racial issues and police brutality cases that have come to light Following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

In the spirit of former persons of color who walked to freedom, I will be walking from Birmingham, AL, to the Canada border. Specifically from the courthouse of the jail where Dr. Martin Luther King was held, and wrote his famous letters from a Birmingham jail.

The funds will pay for the costs of the walk including housing along the route, food and water for volunteers, supplies, safety and security measures/ volunteers, and any unforeseen costs associated with the walk itself. Any monies collected over the need of the project will be donated to the ACLU.

I am asking for an RV rental in lieu of hotel stays (in an attempt to keep our team safe and healthy during the COVID crisis). I am asking for volunteers to walk safely in small numbers. I am asking for additional walking shoes and socks, to maintain healthy feet over the 700+ mile walk.
There is a list of "asks" on the website, in lieu of cash donations:
RV rental for 40 days, preferred pick up in Birmingham, AL.
***Gear; walking/ running shoes, light weight long sleeves for running, sport bras, run shorts, socks (good running socks), rain gear
***First Aid Kit
SPOT sat com device
***Water carry pack
Water, energy bars/ snacks
***A go pro w/ mount
Airline travel to BHM; from DTW upon return
***Masks (to help prevention of covid transmission)
Volunteers willing to walk along the way, possible safety personnel
Friends willing to host a night/ meal/ shower along the way

Funds over the goal amount will be donated to local civil rights groups after the walk is complete.

*** These items have been received and can be removed from Ask list. THANK YOU!!

The walk is scheduled to begin on July 4th symbolizing Independence for ALL United States citizens, and will take approximately 6 weeks if my goal of 20 miles per day is met.
We will accept donations and goods through August 28, which is the final date the walk would end, also celebrating the anniversary date of Dr. King’s "I have a dream" speech.

The primary goal of this walk is to unite Americans in a tangible, peaceful support of equality for all.
We are encouraging people to come meet us along the route to show support and even walk a mile or two for peace.
