Glitter Cymru is Wales largest LGBTQ+ grassroot group for the Global Majority community that has been championing solidarity and community connectivity since its inception in 2016. The Global Majority is an inclusive term for all people from African, Asian, indigenous, Latin American, or mixed-heritage backgrounds, constituting approximately 85 percent of the global population and yet have traditionally been referred to and treated as ‘ethnic minorities’ and/or ‘BAME-Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic’ within the UK and the Global North more broadly. Glitter Cymru is entirely volunteer led, and all our funding is directly invested into the community for various activities and initiatives (see below for details).

Investing in the LGBTQ+ Global Majority community has never been more urgent. Across the globe, we are witnessing a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-immigrant rhetoric, with exponential increases and spread of misinformation and disinformation. This had led to a sharp rise in hate crimes and hate speech that is further marginalising our LGBTQ+ Global Majority community. It a staggering fact that currently over 60 countries still criminalise same sex relationships. Amid this hate, discrimination and persecution, Glitter Cymru provides community sanctuary. For 10 years, Glitter Cymru has been working tirelessly to ensure that there will always be a space where our community can come together and develop lasting bonds, encouraging community building and resilience. From our monthly social meetings to our championing of major social campaigns, Glitter Cymru continues to stand for our Global Majority community.

Our GoFundMe page is a chance to stand up to the rise of hatred and discrimination and invest in our community group that is an antidote to these urgent challenges. If you believe that Glitter Cymru stands for something important and worth investing in, please consider donating to us. Every amount donated- no matter how great or small- goes towards supporting our diverse community. With your donations, we will:

1) Ensure there is a dedicated repository of grocery vouchers available for our most vulnerable members to have access to essential amenities (e.g., food and hygiene products).

2) Have a dedicated budget for mental health counselling. We have trained counsellors within our community group that we would like to invest in.

3) Continue investing in our monthly meetings which are the powerhouse of Glitter Cymru-ensuring that our community will always have a place to connect with each other on a regular basis.

4) Fund the development and implementation of our annual Glitter Pride, ensuring all our communities amazing talents are noticed, amplified and invested in.

We always aim to be transparent about how our funding is utilised and we welcome any questions via our email- [email redacted]

With solidarity and pride

Thank you/diolch
