Waking Us Up Through Personal Sacrifice.

On Indigenous People's Day (October 10), six Declare Emergency supporters were arrested while helping about 20 others block one of the busiest highways in the DC metro area. They acted to raise our collective consciousness and force the government to declare a climate emergency.
On Dec 13, the six defendants were sentenced to jail time plus a $500 fine for each charge.
They've made big sacrifices for all of us. !!Please donate to help them if you can!!
The judge who sentenced them has a ~$47K investment in a fossil fuel pipeline company that disclosed in an SEC filing that profits could be negatively impacted if the government regulates fossil fuels.
In contrast, one defendant, Jason Goward, said "I have 19 cents in my checking account." Several are retirees on fixed incomes or have chosen to sacrifice their material well-being to save humanity.
The Defendants:
- Jason Goward, an Indigenous leader from Minnesota, quit a job working on a fossil fuel pipeline when he realized the damage it was doing to his community.
- Maple Osterbrink, a retiree from North Carolina, worries about the futures of all young people, especially her 12-year-old granddaughter Olivia.
- Nora Swisher, a Maryland former public-school teacher with a physics Ph.D., scared out of her mind about what science is telling us about climate change.
- Holley White, a farmer from New York who's experienced the ravages of climate change firsthand.
- Bob Atkinson, a retiree from Vermont, enraged at the enormous subsidies we continue to hand over to filthy fossil fuel companies.
- Andy Hinz, a former federal government professional from Maryland, now works tirelessly to force our leaders out of their willful inaction.
