Wabumi's heart surgery
Please help us raise funds to help Wabumi Dubeka, Born on 19th May 2021.
The Dubeka family were overjoyed to welcome baby boy Wabumi to their family.
At birth, he was rated healthy and scored 8 out of 10, although the doctors noticed excess skin fold on the back of his neck.
The paediatrician, who examined him the day after his birth mentioned that he shows some features of Down Syndrome, particularly a short neck and poor muscle tone.
Further tests were ordered which were done over a period of 3 to 4 weeks. The results validated the outcome of the Pediatrician’s earlier physical examination and confirmed that Wabumi has Down syndrome.
And ECHO test results diagnosed Wabumi with two serious heart conditions:
An atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD)
Meaning he has 2 holes in the heart between the chambers of the right and left sides of the heart, and the valves that control the flow of blood between exhibit some malformation.

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).
The ductus arteriosus is a blood vessel for the baby in the womb that connects the mother’s blood circulation system to the baby’s heart. This blood vessel is supposed to close once the baby is born, however, Wabumi's vessel remains open.

To correct Wabumi's heart, Wabumi will need to undergo surgery between September and November 2021, when he is 4 to 6 months old. Furthermore, the surgery is not available in Wabumi's home country of Zambia.
India offers the cheapest and best option for Wabumi. The initial estimates for the surgery are $12,000 (£8,700) to $15,000 (£10,800). Initially, we have set the donation mark at $5,000 but we hope to exceed this and raise the mark as donations reach us.
Our family remain positive and we are learning about how to care for baby Wabumi in a way that gives him the best quality of life. We would like to help Wabumi's immediate family by helping fundraise for the operation and give Wabumi the best chance to live a healthy life.
Please join us in sending love and support to his loving family as they focus on doing what they can at this time.
Any donation will make the biggest difference in helping baby Wabumi
Many thanks for your support and God bless
