Make Someone's Christmas

Donation protected
Please help me help Karin and her teenage son Daniel (who has suffered from chronic migraines for many years) during this holiday season. As a single mom, Karin has already struggled for years trying to get her bright son the medical help he needs. I have been watching her story unfold as her Facebook friend and began following her when I read her super witty blog and became a fan! I was so engaged by her writing, that I searched for her, found her and added her.  Not long after this, I recall her posting about his increasing medical needs and asking for any help she and her son could receive.

The family of two (who have the most heartening relationship a mother and son could possibly have) are now, post-COVID era, struggling more than they could have ever imagined. They are going month to month trying to pay rent and not get evicted. She gave her son $100 to spend for Christmas. She went out of town and he used the money to surprise her with a political tree that had a lot of mementos hanging that the two of them had experienced together.  My heart breaks for their family. While struggling, they have taken in other people who are struggling as well or given them food and necessities. Her son asks her constantly to help others, and she agrees.

Karin has recently been on CNN with Don Lemon to tell her story, but it has not helped. She has been on MSNBC and been quoted in many articles, but nobody has truly helped her financially. I am going to quote a few things to sent me through a long email about some specifics of her story.

In regard to press:

"Don Lemon is cool and funny and texts me. Poppy Harlow calls me. Yasmin texts. It's so weird that even a month ago, I'd have laughed and laughed at the thought of this.  Daniel calls me the Spokesperson for the Hobos."

In regard to work:

"I am looking for a job, but education was a sector in trouble before this, and now? No one is hiring at the level where I operate. And honestly, it's really. hard to switch gears from taking care of everyone and figuring out where to get money for bills and food for everyone to being super professional and smart and interviewing. We all got sent straight to the bottom of Maslow with this, and we're having a rough time clawing our way up again."

In regard to her son's health and schooling:

"I've got a son with Ehlers-Danlos who will be 14 in one week. He's in constant pain from not being able to exercise much (we were in Phase 1 until the 8th), and he's depressed and anxious. He was already homeschooling, but with the influx of students into online classes with Florida Virtual, he's still waiting to be assigned teachers, and we don't know when that will happen. So he's bored, too. While I'm certain he's learning important life skills with Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed, it's not exactly the curriculum I wanted."

The money donated will be used to help Karin and Daniel pay their rent. If there is extra money, it will be used to give Daniel Christmas presents like video games he loves. If there is money beyond that, Karin would love some skin care and makeup so she can look awesome for her TV appearances. If there is money beyond that, I will legitimately cry because I cannot see another post from this woman asking for help that I cannot give her myself, and I just want to make everything right for them. As a former teacher of teenagers, I have a major soft spot for her son, and I just want him to lead a normal life. Thank you for whatever amount you can give. If you have something else you would like to donate (gift cards, skin care, stuff for her son, etc) I have their home address and you can message me directly.
